I READ WITH great interest and some surprise your recent cover story about fees ('New regs trebled recovery charges, says lawyer', CM 26 February).
The gentleman quoted is a lawyer and is taking the moral high ground with regards to an industry that has waited patiently for an increase in the statutory fee for 13 years. It is long overdue for many struggling to survive, pulled down by poor rates.
Does this lawyer own a heavy recovery vehicle, which he has invested several hundreds, no thousands, of pounds in? Has he dealt with a myriad of costly legislation, filled it up with diesel and employed a man or two before setting off to use his skills in righting a vehicle that is off the road in all weathers? Has he defined and dealt with the load and recovered it all? And all this before dealing with the police, engineers, insurance companies and the insured? I think not.
