GLASGOW Corporation is to give a lead to other scottish local authorities by providing safety belts for Ihe drivers and front-seat passengers in all its vehicles under two tons. The Corporation has been recommended to do so by the Ministry of Transport.
Tenders for about 800 safety belts are being invited to cover the fleet of cars, lorries and vans, and expenditure is likely to be between £5,000 and £6,000. Buses and other heavy vehicles are not affected by the Minister's request.
Wages Proposals Issued
A s exclusively forecast in The Coln nrercial Motor last week, the Road Haulage Wages Council has now issued the proposed amendment to the current wages regulations in the notice R.H.(75). Briefly, the proposals are to increase additional night pay from 8d. to 1 ld. per hour and subsistence allowance from 18s. to 20s. per rest period. It is also recommended that Trouse with Newton (near Norwich) be added to the list of Grade 1 areas.
Copies of R.H.(75) are obtainable from the Secretary to the Wages Council, Ebury Bridge House, Ebury Bridge Road, London, S.W.I, to whom any representations regarding these proposals should be made in writing not later than August 23.
