Aldridge, Walsall-based bodybuilder JC Payne receives deliveries of Dwell products every week. Payne employs 150 people and has 8,360m2 of factory space.
Paul Sandom, MD and chairman, reports that the firm makes Luton boxes and curtainsiders; thousands of bodies leave its production lines every year. And the firm is "growing rapidly", he adds.
Finance director Steve Tandy confirms that Payne buys Z40,600 worth of Elwell steel a month. "Elwell is a key supplier," he states. "We can place an order, and it can react quite quickly."
Elwell also supplies Metek, a firm that designs and constructs buildings. It specialises in commercial projects and major PEI s. Steel sections are Metek's bread and butter; director Oliver Rogan describes the company as an "innovative company in light steel framing' its raw materials are made to order by Elwell.
Using the steel delivered by Wilde Transport (UK) means building is much quicker than with bricks.
Rogan reports that Metek recently built a new Travelodge in 12 weeks-the same project would take 18 weeks if older building methods were used.
Metek relies on Elwell and Wilde Transport to provide the steel bang on time. Rogan's company might have to fork out 250,000 per week to a customer if it lags behind'on a project. "It's crucial we have a company that can meet on-time deliveries, and not let us down," he says.
