one of the largest fuel laundering plants ever found in Northern Ireland. The plant, in farm buildings in the Jerrettspass area outside Newry, was said to be capable of processing 175,000 litres of illegal fuel a week.
In a separate operation officers seized 66,200 litres of green diesel and petrol from storage tanks, and a fuel tanker containing green diesel and paraffin, from comrnercial premises in Co Armagh.
Colin McAllister, customs' head of detection for Northern Ireland, says: -Customs and the police have stopped a substantial amount of illegal fuel from entering the legitimate fuel market and affecting honest businesses.
"The plant was capable of laundering over nine million litres of fuel per year. This would mean a potential duty loss of over £5m. No arrests have been made in relation to either operation."
