A PSV VERSION of HawsonGarner's passenger body on the Ford A-series chassis is being developed and should be unveiled in early summer.
At present, six non-psv bodies have been delivered to the Ministry of Defence. Many of the parts used have been directly developed from Hawson-Garner's van range The bus is based on the Aseries 3.96m (13ft) wheel base chassis cowl. The standard version seats 20 passengers and a 24-seat version is also available, Alternatively, luxury seats are an optional extra on the 20-seat model.
The body frame is construe ted from welded rolled steel sections mounted on an underframe of G-section steel. A "torque box" in front of the passenger seats gives extra strength to the structure. The body panels are of I8-gauge aluminium while the roof and front canopy are glassfibre mouldings.
The doors of the MoD version slide outside the body, but for the psv version, driveroperated doors will be fitted of a design yet to be finalised. Modifications will also have to be made to the spring hangers and steering for psv certification.
