THE West Midland Licensing
Authority on Monday suspended the road service licence of Mr. Henry J. Partridge, trading as Bantam Coaches, 158 Walsgrave Road, Coventry, until September 30 for exceeding his vehicle allowance from Pool Meadow.
Mr. F. Hartland, official traffic !xaminer, said that he had seen )artridge on May 27 about allegations hat the allowance had been exceeded. 'reviously Partridge had been granted in additional vehicle to his licence, but his was not sufficient for him.
"If the Authority sees fit not to ncrease your vehicle allowance, are you willing to abide by the decision?" 4r. Hartland asked.
"If there are passengers still waiting a be carried after all the other opera tors have filled their coaches, I shall continue to carry them whether I am prosecuted or not," Partridge was said to have replied.
A serious view was taken of this conversation and Partridge was warned, but, said Mr. N. D. Andrews, another examiner, Partridge used nine coaches from Pool Meadow only four days later. He reportedly said afterwards: "I agree I have well exceeded my vehicle allowance, I wish to inform the Licensing Authority that the public are there to be catered for."
In evidence, Partridge said he had no intention of flouting the Licensing Authority. He did not remember saying he would carry any passengers left over.
