Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Belfast Corporation's transport corn-. mittee is to get a £750,000 shot in the arm from the Ministry of Development.

Last year the city's buses lost £+m, and the losses are running higher this year, with the continuing troubles, hijackings and reduced services.

The transport committee's chairman, Cllr W. Spence, said that the qm was less than they had sought, but would be a big help in maintaining an efficient service in the face of tremendous difficulties. It is thought that the Ministry's aim may be to keep the Corporation transport department reasonably viable pending a merger with Ulsterbus Ltd, probably next year.
