UNSUCCESSFUL attempts were made at meetings of two local authorities in East Anglia, last week, to discourage the purchase of new buses. Similar arguments were used in each case.
Yarmouth Town Council accepted a recommendation of the transport committee to buy four 78-seaters at £5,988 each. The opposition declared that at present there were vehicles standing idle even during the peak weeks in the summer_ At Colchester it was stated that 15 out of 38 buses were not employed. But the town council decided to buy five vehicles costing altogether £.23,750.
