Year is the Iveco Stralis AS, the Italian truck builder's replacement for the EuroStar. Earlier this year Iveco completed the Stralis range with the addition of the narrow-cabbed AT and AD (sleeper and day-cab versions).These effectively replaced the EuroTech range, which was itself Truck of the Year in 1993.
Like its big-cab stablemate, the new 'baby' Stralis is a massive im provement over its predecessor. the EuroTech, benefiting from a heavy revision to the cab and a number of other enhancements to the chassis. Iveco's heavy truck range appears to have finally come of age. Reports from the fleets are that not only is this truck beginning to attract drivers. it's also performing credit ably at the fuel pumps.
All these factors give the Stralis a lighting chance in this year's contest.but the fact that it was a victor last year has stolen its thunder somewhat. It would be unusual for the 18-strong voting panel to elect for a Stralis double-whammy.
There's an outside chance of victory, hut this is the secondary entry from the Iveco stable and punters should be looking for place money only.
