It's easy to view decent spec as a needless expense, and manufacturer back-up as an extra cost, but get the right package and you needn't lose out.

NON-TRANSPORT BUSINESSES with vans rarely see the long-term benefits of getting the best vehicle specification and aftercare, and regularly miss out on cash when it comes to re-marketing.
With ever-tightening margins and an overabundance of average vehicles on the market, you need to consider every aspect to reap any cash potential.
Mark Cowdell, CAP Guide's assistant forecast manager for commercial vehicles, explains: "We find that driver comfort is an important area to consider when specifying a vehicle. Air conditioning is popular and brings around £350 at three years, -Colour is always a key factor to consider; while corporate livery is a great advertising tool, values can be lower at disposal time if the colour scheme is deemed to be outside of the norm.
"Metallic paint in the right colour can also bring a premium of around £300 at three years. Condition is definitely one of the most important aspects when valuing a commercial vehicle. The CAP benchmark of average condition gives a negative value for anything deemed poor, and a positive for clean vehicles," he says. •
