NI More than £300,000 worth of damage was caused in a suspected arson attack on a haulage depot in Northern Ireland. Six trucks and five trailers were destroyed at general haulier Anfield Transport in Portadown, County Armagh, early on Sunday morning (13 April). Some of Anfielcl's 15 drivers may have to be laid off.
Andy Ancirews, a partner in the business, is baffled by the fire: "It has just come completely out of the blue," he says. "We are up and running again and trying to keep our customers happy." The business, which was set up in 1979, has four trucks and 15 trailers left, but some were damaged.
The fire also destroyed the contents of some trailers.
Divisional fire officer Walter Johnston says this was almost certainly arson because the fire broke out in at least three separate places. "You normally associate such attacks with extreme political tension," he adds, "but that isn't the case at the moment."
