111 A lorry driver who smuggled almost 000,000-worth of cannabis into the country has been jailed for eight years.
Maidstone Crown Court heard that Dean Fogarty, 33, of Maroon Street, Poplar, London, hid more than 130kg of herbal i'annabis and 444g of cannabis rosin in a load of textiles.
Martin Griffith. prosecuting, said Fogarty's lorry was stopped at Dover Docks in Kent last May. A sniffer dog found 10 boxes containing the drugs
inside legitimate boxes. A tachochart which would have shown some of the movements during the trip to Amsterdam was missing, added Griffith.
Fogarty claimed that while in Amsterdam he met an Englishman he knew as Gary who asked him to bring back some boxes for .E.150. He put them in with the rest of the load and gave Gary his address.
He maintained that he did not know that the boxes contained any drugs.
