THE BRENNER pass route into Italy has proved expensive for some international drivers from Britain and other EEC countries who have fallen into the hands of money-exchange crooks at the border.
They offer to change their sterling, marks or francs at a rate far more favourable than that offered by banks and official exchange offices.
But the 10,000-lire notes given in exchange have turned out to be forged, states the German Long Distance Transport Association in a warning to drivers this month.
