• Gardner is planning to increase its business in the bus and coach sector during 1988 with the launch of a new range of horizontal engines, based on its existing 12.7-litre 6LXDT truck engine which is currently available with power ratings from 172-216kW (230-290hp).
The Manchester and London-based engine builder is looking to bring out a more powerful version of the 6LXDT truck engine at 231kW (310hp). This will be followed in the third quarter of next year by a complete range of turbocharged horizontal 6LXDT engines for PSV applications, with similar ratings from 172-231kW (230-310ph).
While Gardner is saying little on which bus and coach builders will be likely to take its 12.7-litre horizontal power unit, it already supplies its turbocharged horizontal 10.4-litre 6HLXCT engine to a number of bus and coach chassis manufacturers including Leyland Bus, MCW, Dennis Specialist Vehicles and Neoplan.
