/ Norfolk Trading Standards has invested £135,000 in a weighbridge test-rig to service the high-capacity weighbridges in the county as well as outside contract work.
The outfit is based on a Fruehauf 10m semi-trailer with RO-R air suspended axles: the rear axle can be raised to allow the test trailer to be accommodated on older 6.1m (20ft) weigh-bridges. It is hauled by a Volvo FL10 sleeper-cabbed 4x2 tractor with rear air suspension.
A separate "silent pack" power source in the form of a three-cylinder Hatz diesel unit with a Hiab 160 tail-mounted 16t/m crane is used to transfer the 20 tonnes of roller weights and 1,000kg of ancillary equipment. This is protected by bright yellow Slidaflex slidinghood bodywork with rear shut ter closure from Telford-based Norteck Bodies.
The PVC-coated polyester tilt, which is supported on steel hoops running on rollers along the side rave can be moved along the body from ground level by an operator.
It is secured with quickrelease tensioners on the rear pillars. Hydraulic legs ahead of the leading axle give extra support to the body during use.
