Only • rarely can it occur that vehicle distributors are asked to design for the carriage of an abnormal indivisible load on a coach as well as .a full complement of passengers, but just this has happened to Kirkby and Sons (Sales) Ltd. of South Yorkshire. They have been asked by the Shawnigan Lake School of Vancouver Island to supply a vehicle that will carry two 60ft racing shells for use by a party of pupils who are to tour Britain. Special roof supports are being designed to carry the boats.
One of the Kirkby directors, Miss J. Brady, says that they have advised the party that it will be necessary for them to give advance notification regarding their routes and to use special marking devices.
