WHAT a shame that Frank Tinsdale (CM July 3) seems to have no contact with the real world. He obviously never speaks to anybody living near where motorbikes roam if he thinks there are no complaints about motorbike noise. And, clearly, he drives along motorways with his eyes shut if he has never seen a lorry driving in the fast, outside lane (albeit illegally).
His comments on the "proof" that heavy vehicles are responsible for fewer accidents than other road users (remembering that lorries, constituting 3 per cent of the vehicle fleet are involved with 10 per cent of fatalities) compare oddly with his comments on the "proof" that heavy lorries are responsible for road damage.
I suspect that he would, finally, receive a surprising revelation if his suggestion that all lorries over 16 tonnes displayed a sign showing their tax payments and road track costs — it would show quite clearly the £103m subsidy from the taxpayer that the heaviest lorries will receive this year.
