TSSA General Seer( Tom Jenkins said in Association's house joi that LT chairman Ken Robinson's early retire as a surprise. He said VIr Robinson had "relinied" his position as man at LT as he and the unions were in the midst scussions on the GLC • on the future of LT and s that the union "can be fen for thinking" that the actors were coincidental. Jenkins says that the TSSA feels strongly that Mr Robinson should have remained in the post until his term of office expired on December 31. He felt also that the promotion of Ralph Bennett from the position of deputy chairman to chairman was premature even though TSSA accepted that he had had long experience in transport and on the LT board.
Mr Jenkins was openly critical of the appointment of John Stansby as deputy chairman, Mr Stansby is a management consultant, and TSSA is worried about what the GLC have in mind for this post. Mr Jenkins said "There could be some idea that he will be able to do a hatchet job — and we don't want that."
TSSA's views have been made known to the GLC, as have its views on the GLC transport proposals. It understood that the GLC proposals were in the nature of a consultative document which needed to be drastically revised to meet TSSA approval and, in the TSSA's opinion, the requirements of London.
Mr Jenkins also put on record TSSA's appreciation of the co-operation which Kenneth Robinson extended to trade unions.
