FOLLOW1NG a series of offences against Section 178 of the 1960 Road Traffic Act, the North Western Licensing Authority. Maj.-Gen. A. F. 1. Elmslie, suspended three vehicles licensed to Croppers Garage (Liverpool) Ltd. at Manchester on Monday for three months commencing on May 27. He gave details of offences involving records and drivers'
hours. In some of these instances a number of the company's drivers had also faced charges. Mr. G. P. Crowe, for Croppers Garage, said the offences had been committed when Mr. George Cropper, the son of the managing director, Mr. G. H. Cropper, had been in charge of the business. The latter had not known they were being committed. Mr. George Cropper no longer held any responsibility within the organization, said Mr. Crowe. The company, which had an admirable record over many years. had already been severely penalized, said Mr. Crowe,
Maj.-Gen. Elmslie said that he regarded the offences as serious; they could not pass entirely unnoticed. After stating that three vehicles must be suspended he added that Mr. Cropper could nominate the three to come off the road.
