N acquires a Spanish haulier

• Mayne Nickless, Parceline's Australian parent, has taken its European expansion plans a step further with the acquisition of Spanish haulier Transportes Helguera.
This latest acquisition follows Mayne Nickless's takeover of Dutch haulier and distributor, P A Van der Heijden En Zonen (CM 10-16 May).
The 50-year-old Spanish company specialises in general and express freight in Spain and the Balearic and Canary Islands using 500 vehicles, and has a turnover of .E153m.
It has 48 sites throughout Spain, with major depots in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao. Mayne Nickless plans to move the HQ from Bilbao to Madrid and to centralise the operation. but the company will retain its name and management structure.
Mayne Nickless managing director Ian Webber says: . "The business has many similarities with our core businesses in the transport field. . . the company will complement existing business activities in Spain, Holland, Belgium and the UK in the transport and security industries."
MN still has "a few more irons in the fire" which could lead to more Continental acquisitions, says a spokesman.
