Already 50 Members of New Coach Section of Motor Omnibus Proprietors Association
MEM new Coach Section which has been inaugurated under the auspices of the Motor Omnibus Proprietors Association, of South Wales, is already showing signs of developing to considerable importance, a membership of 50 operators, all engaged in the coaching business, having now been reached.
The object in forming this section has been to eudeavour to obtain the same advantages for its members as obtained by members of the M.O.P.A,, who, of course, tire motorbus operators. The Coach Section works in conjunction with the M.O.P.A., there being a joint executive committee. An effort is being made to stabilize fares and to get working agreements between the members regarding the separate areas and routes on which they operate. Already some useful provisional work in this direction has been done. Negotiations are proceeding and, as the membership increases, several valuable working agreements are almost sure to materialize, The slack period of the winter months is being taken advantage of for this purpose, and it is hoped to have considerable work completed before the 1932 coaching season opens.
The chairman of the Coach Section is Mr. H. M. Davies, who, of course, is well known as the chairman of the M.O.P.A.; the vice-chairman is Mr. H. Cridland, of Cardiff, one of the largest coach owners in Wales, and Councillor C. Thomas, the secretary of the M.O.P.A., also is secretary of the Coach
Section, his address; being Bristol House, Argoed, Mon. The executive committee, of which meetings are held monthly, comprises Messrs. C. Morgan, Tonypandy ; S. Probert, Aberdare; H. J. Smith, Cardiff; H. Porter' Newport; A. Gibbs, Pontllanfraith; W. T. Morgan, Llanelly ; H. Mathias, Morriston ; W. M. David, Ogmore Vale; D. j. Evans, Caerphilly ; D. J. Davies, Merthyr.
It may here be noted that the M.O.PA. has a membership of over 80 companies, these companies representing more than 2,000 vehicles. Approximately 98 per cent. of the private operators in South Wales are members and the association is one of the strongest in Britain. All bus owners -who are granted licences by the Traffic Commissioners to run stage carriages are eligible for membership.
