• A drunk driver who killed two lorry drivers on the M6 is this week facing a quadrupled prison sentence from the Criminal Appeal Court in London.
Cumbrian businessman Christopher Charles Nevison, admitted at Preston Crown Court in April to two offences of causing death by dangerous driving. He has had his prison sentence increased from concurrent l5-month terms to concurrent five-year sentences. He retained his life ban on driving.
His prison sentence was referred to the Appeal Court by the Attorney General who thought it was too lenient. Last week at the Appeal Court, the Lord Chief Justice Lord Taylor said 55-year-old Nevison from Sedgwick, had been three times over the drink limit while driving at about 100mph and had "cut off' two men in the prime of life.
Nevison killed 30-year-old Mark Hargreaves and Frank Pointon, 44, after colliding with Hargreaves' tipper on the M6 in Lancashire. The impact forced the truck through the central reservation and then into a head-on collision with Pointon's livestock vehicle. The two were killed instantly.
