Eihe heroic efforts of French driver Amine Fatmi, in delivering aid for humanitarian transport specialist Equilibre International, has resulted in a medal of honour from the International Road Transport Union (MU) at its World Congress in San Diego last month.
Fatmi has worked for five years delivering aid in conditions of danger and poor weather conditions, including a shipment of goods to the war-torn Southern Caucasus, a round trip of some 7,000 miles. His award included a cash grant, a diploma and a gold medal. He attended the congress as an [RU guest. A Swedish lorry driver, Per Anders Ekstrom, was also honoured for risking his life to save two motorists trapped in a car which drove into a river. Proves there's more to lorry drivers than the popular image of Sunreading, Yorkie-bar munching, motorway morons propagated by some sections of the press.
