• The Government has refusedto endorse claims that hauliers could be forced to sort out compensation for employees injured at work, rather than rely on the State for a pay.out.
Press reports that the Chancellor was set to scrap the Industrial Injuries Scheme in the Budget later this month were "pure speculation", says a spokesperson.
According to the Daily Telegraph on Monday (14 November), ministers are considering the introduction of a system of private insurance financed by employers to replace the established Industrial Injuries Scheme.
