• A strike at Exel's automotive division has been averted after more than 600 dryers accepted a revised pay offer.
The deal is worth an extra 3.5%, backdated to January, plus a further 3.5% increase which runs from the beginning of this month (October) through to the end of next year.
Roy Abrahams, divisional officer for the United Road Transport Union, Says the ballot in favour of acceptance of the offer was fairly narrow. "It was a bit of a struggle we managed to get there in end," he says.
A strike would have rupted the delivery of vet parts for Ford, Honda and Rover.
Abrahams says that be the deal, the highest paid vers in the automotive divi received 15.57/hour for a g anteed 45-hour week (CM1 September).
