fil he Holstein Friesian Society recently decided to send some of its field development officers (FD0s) to West Herts Training, which usually schools HGV drivers, to learn the skills of manoeuvring cars and box trailers safely and efficiently.
The FDOs visit farms to classify Hostein Friesian cattle for pedigree purposes — they also promote their society at agricultural shows all over the country where they staff mobile exhibition units. West Herts chief instructor Vic Griffiths gave them the low-down on the secrets of driving articulated vehicles.
"During the course I asked them if they kept a bull in their trailers but they told me someone had been pulling my Pilsner," says Griffiths, who hopes his students have got it off pat.
