• Hauliers represented by the Road Haulage Association are demanding £300,000 (FF2,768,016) compensation from the French Government for losses which they incurred during this summer's French truck blockade.
The claim is based on a 38tonne general haulage artic losing £216 (FF2,000) per day during the dispute from 29 June to 9 July. The cost represents standing costs, drivers' wages and subsistence for 267 trucks, says RI-TA director of operations, Tim Inman.
"We have deliberately urged our members to base their claims on a realistic daily loss figure per vehicle and not on individual loss of revenue," says Inman. However he says claims from operators of specialist vehicles such as tankers and abnormal loads are higher.
