• Humber Warehousing Group has joined the Common Carriers Conference (Irregular Routes) of the American Trucking Association in ordet to benefit from North American experience in long-distance and frozen food transport, and a senior executive from Humber will be visiting the USA next year to make direct contact with fellow-members.
In January next year Humber will be opening three new depots—at Lowestoft, Avonmouth and Colsterworth, and further new depots are proposed for Sheffield, South Wales and Bury St Edmunds, while the company will also be building in Lancashire.
Also in January, a new refrigerated transport base is to opened in Hull at the depot of McVeigh Transport (acquired by Humber this year). This base will operate under the name Service Haulage Co and will initially run six refrigerated vehicles.
On the warehousing side, a further large development will be started in North Lincolnshire within the next 12 months, and is likely to include facilities for container handling, loading and unloading as well as general storage and distribution. Humber's Link Container Division has doubled its production area at Grimsby in the past year and reports a particularly large expansion in the demand for small refrigerated bodies, built as units which can be transferred later to new chassis.
The combined Humber Warehousing and McVeigh Transport fleets now operate from 21 depots throughout Britain.
