• A simple answer to the problem of carrying occasional overlength loads on a vehicle fitted with an hydraulic tail-lift has been found by the Plessey Co Ltd.
A Ratcliff tail-lift, 30cwt model, has been built to allow the platform to be held in the horizontal position and, when fitted with side and tailboard, this makes a useful 3 for addition to the normal 20ft body length.
Another interesting feature about the body, which was built by Bonallack in light alloy and fitted to a Ford D1000 chassis, is that it has retractable ISO twistlocks to enable 20ft containers to be carried if necessary.
The use of the tail-lift in the horizontal position is recommended only when self-supported long items are carried; it is not the intention that it should be used for weighty items of general goods.
