• An Anthony Carrimore tipping semi-trailer with a 40-ton capacity—the heaviest carrying capacity of any ever built at the company's Harelaw, Co Durham, works—is being delivered to the customer, General Navigation and Commerce Company, at Dubai. Purpose-built for use on road construction and general building work in the difficult terrain of the Arabian Gulf, the vehicle has rubber-mounted suspension with twin 30,000lb series tubular axles and is fitted with 24.00 X 20.5 Michelin X Sahara sand tyres. The trailer is towed by a Foden 6AXB6 /50 tractive unit, which gives a total gvw or about 60 tons.
The Anthony extra-heavy duty all-steel, end-tipping body, 28ft long and 8ft wide, has a cubic capacity of 30 yards. It has a rolled steel channel top rail and a top-hung tailgate. The two-membered main frame is constructed from fabricated I-beam sections, ' 18in. deep and 6in. wide, with rolled channel section cross-members, gusseted to the main longitudinal beams. Welded to the main frame is single-speed, vertical lift landing gear with pads.
The Anthony type L4OFT tipping gear has twin, four-stage front end rams with cover tubes. The heavy duty SAE turntable and subframe were made by Carrimore.
