OPERATORS are paying £1 for every minute saved by using the M6 Toll, according to exclusive research carried out this week by Commercial Motor.
The result comes as a CM test during Monday morning's rush hour showed the toll road — which costs .£10 for a single journey for trucks—saved less than 10 minutes compared with using the M6.
In the test, three CMjournalists set off in trucks from Warwick services on the M42, with one taking the M6,the second the M6Toll, and the third taking a route involv ing the A-roads leading to the A5. The three trucks then met up at Stafford services. As expected the AS route took the longest time but there was less than 10 minutes difference between the M6 and M6 Toll routes.
However CM editor Andy Salter says that the test, which encountered very little traffic on the traditional M6 bottlenecks, shows that the M6 Toll is working. "It's good news — but it's still too expensive for trucks."
