BUS OPERATORS in the area around Milton Keynes have joined together to compete against the National Bus Company subsidiary set-up to provide bus services in the new town.
Buckinghamshire County Council put the entire Citybus network out to tender several months ahead of the 1985 Transport Act registration deadline of February 28.
The tenders were due in this week and the resultant subsidised network is expected to come into operation in April.
Fourteen independent operators hope to offer the county a saving of around Gfx),000 a year for operating the network currently operated by Citybus, a company created out of part of United Counties.
Although each of the independents will only have to provide a few buses to the network, the group plans that all vehicles will have radio control and electronic ticket equipment to ensure fast journey times.
Operators in the group bidding for the 47-bus network are Bartbrdian, Becketts, Buffalo, Ementons, Hewletts, John sons, Langston and Tasker, Marshal's, Motts, Robinsons, Souls, Turveys and Armstrongs.
