THE EEC is not, I suspect, the favourite institution of John Wells, national secretary of the Commercial Motor Lorry Driver of the Year Competition. Its requirement that time spent by 'paid drivers of the competition and in travelling to and from it should be included in the statutory limit on weekly hours worked, coming on top of thP trade depression, has hammered the final nail in so regional contests' coffins.
