AROUND 50 drivers a night are using Penrith's new Truck Stop lorry park at junction 40 on the M6.
The park, which opened on July 9, will be opened officially on September 9 by Home Secretary William Whitelaw, who also is the MP for Penrith and the Border.
There is parking space for 200 vehicles in a secure area, single and double rooms with private bathrooms and central heating, a fully licensed bar, a lounge, games/TV room, and a self-service restaurant.
It also has phones and a Shell diesel station for retail and agency sales, with an extensive bunkering facility.
Daytime parking is free, while the overnight charge is £2. Sleeping accommodation costs £4 to E5 per night, and meals are available from £1 upwards. Drivers may also sleep in their cabs.
