CONSIDERABLE opposition by
tramways interests was offered when Mr. G. L. Harwood sought, in respect of certain services, to reduce the price of contract tickets, to modify his timetable and to issue single fares lower than the 5d. minimum imposed by the Minister of Transport on appeal.
It was desired to obtain a revised list, introducing 2d. fares, to reduce to 3s. 6d. the 5s. charge for 12-journey tickets, and to pick up and set down passengers at certain points not at• present permitted.
Sir John Maxwell, chairman of the Northern Traffic Commissioners, allowed the contract-ticket rate to be reduced to 4% 6d., but Maintained the other fares, whilst the time-table question was left to a conference of operators.
