• Proposals for hauliers to meet stricter entrance standards for acceptance by the British Association of Removers were given first approval from the 700strong member group last week.
Delegates at the BAR's autumn conference in Manchester passed a motion put by Preston-based Whittle Movers' chairman Max Godfrey that five additional entrance rules should be introduced by 2000: recruits should operate trucks no older than eight years old; should work W a recognised standard (such as B55750); have a percentage of their staff accredited by the BAR; adopt an environmental packaging policy; and contribute a yearly £100 to a central marketing fund.
