An air-pressure-operated clutchcontrol system developed by the Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Co. Ltd. combines a conventional hydraulically-actuated clutch slave cylinder with an air-operated piston assembly supplied from the vehicle's braking system. It reduces the pedal effort and pedal travel required to disengage the clutch. In the event of air-pressure failure the clutch can be operated in the normal way with increased effort on the part of the driver.

The unit is made in three sizes (in diameters of 3.0in., and to cater for the range of Borg and Beck clutches between 14in. and 17in. diameter. Housed in a compact aluminium body, the servo incorporates a combined air /hydraulic slave cylinder and an air /hydraulic control valve. The control valve consists of an hydraulically operated reaction valve which actuates a spring-loaded piston; movement of the piston is transmitted to an air valve, also spring-loaded, which governs the flow of air to the slave cylinder through a drilling in the servo body or to atmosphere through a drilling in the control-valve piston.
