port) Ltd., of Stonehouse, Ciloucestershire, for a. new, five-vehicle B licence was granted by the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Samuel Gibbon, at Cheltenham last week. -In evidence, Mr. John Vick, a director of the applicant company, and also of C. W. Vick Ltd., coal merchants, said the transport firm would use the vehicles to haul solid fuel for the associated company, which was established in 1926. No other hauliers had carried coal for the company. Mr. Vick added that more than 10,000 tons of solid fuel were transported each year, mainly from railway sidings at Stortehouse.

After hearing an assurance that the transport company would not carry anything other than coat, the objectors:— J. Smith (Bicknor) Ltd., G. Read (Transport) Ltd. and R. Read (Transport) Ltd. --withdrew.

Agreement on C Switch A?PLYING at Edinburgh on Monday for a switch of three tippers from C to B licence, Thomas Heanue Ltd., of Falkirk, were granted one. Mrs. Heanue, director, gave evidence that her firm of public works contractor operated the three tippers in their own business, which employed 68 workers, Marbon Chemicals, a new Grangemouth company, had asked them to clear waste material from their new construction site. Heanue were not entitled to do this work and had brought the application to permit them to undertake new and very dirty work, The haulage firms objecting pointed out that the work would not seriously affect them, but that three extra B vehicles on road and building materials could constitute an objection. Following consultation, an agreement was reached on the basis of one B vehicle to operate on "road and building materials and plant and waste material within 25 miles ".

TEXTBOOK ON LICENSING

PAA SECOND edition has recently been published of " Corpe on Road Haulage Licensing" by Ilitfe Books Ltd., Dorset House, Stamford Street, London, SX.1, price 45s., or ' by post 45s. 11d. This book was first published in 1953 and has subsequently become a recognized work in this field. Originally written by Mr. T. D. Corpe, 0.B.E., this new edition has been produced by Elizabeth Havers and I. R. D. Jenkins, and because of the many changes in legislation it has been extensively revised and largely rewritten.

Consisting of 209 pages the contents include a table of cases followed by 11 chapters dealing with most aspects of licensing and two appendices giving extracts of relevant passages of Acts, Rules and Statutory Orders, together with typical specimens of the various forms involved.
