LADIES EQUAL
• A consultative document, Sex Discrimination and Retirement, has been issued by the Department of Employment, detailing Government plans to permit women to work until 65 instead of 60.
It will make it illegal for a woman to be dismissed on grounds of age when a man of the same age and comparable circumstances would not, so companies with separate retirement ages for women will be legally obliged to alter them.
The proposals would not oblige employers to provide access to occupational pensions at the same age, nor oblige them to change policies which permit women to choose to retire earlier than men and take a pension.
