• The Transport & General Workers Union has revealed some of its plans for October's massive international protest against excessive working hours in transport.
On 5 October—the third annual day of
action—workers around the world will be demonstrating against long hours, inadequate rest for transport employees, and the safety implications involved.
The T&G is gearing up for regional and national action ahead of the EC transport ministers' meeting on 6 October where the working time directive will be discussed.
T&G industrial organiser Maurice Britton is sending drivers to demonstrate at Hull, Immingham and Teesport where they will be taking a "hands on" role by handing out leaflets and talking to the public, The T&G is holding a meeting on 24 August to discuss its rational tactics.
