A BILTON, Warks, skip-hire firm has been fined £.5,000 with £2,133 costs for dumping and treating waste on land without a waste management licence.
Wolverhampton magistrates heard that when Environment Agency officers visited BK Skip Hire's site they found full skips as well as lots of soil and rubble.
A company employee was sorting and burning waste in a skip while a van owned by a property maintenance company was depositing a small quantity of wood panelling.
Officers saw illegal waste activities being carried out on three other occasions. On 3 October 2003 the agency served a notice requiring the company to remove all illegally deposited waste from the premises within 21 days. But when officers returned on 24 October 2003 they discovered that although skips and containers of waste had been removed, demolition waste had been spread over part of the site and the soil mound was still there.
Environment Agency officer Clive Wall, says: "Companies keeping, depositing and treating waste must have a licence. This document is carefully drafted to set down procedures and controls the holder must adhere to at all times. [This was] a serious offence,"
