PARCELS FIRM Lynx Express faces a drivers' strike over back pay.
The RMT union will ballot the 600 drivers on industrial action this week unless sufficient headway is made at a meeting with the company.
RMT senior assistant general secretary Mick Cash says the new pay deal should have been implemented in January. "The difference between what the company will pay and what we think they should pay is causing a lot of anger among members," he warns.
Although new pay rates have been agreed, he says the company is not prepared to pay the full amount of back-pay. He adds that drivers still feel resentment towards Lynx after pay negotiations two years ago took almost a year to complete.
This year's deal would increase top hourly rates from £7.58 to £7.88 during the day and from £9.60 to £9.81 at night.
A spokesman for Lynx says: "Discussions are still continuing which in our view are in a positive vein and we are therefore hopeful of a speedy settlement."
