• The Northern Licensing Authority has rejected an application by Bee-Line Coaches of Middlesbrough to operate feeder services from Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland to Hartlepool for people taking the company's summer coach tours.
After the hearing, Mr Roy Hardwick, managing director of Bee-Line, said the proposal had been turned down mainly because of opposition by United Automobile Services Ltd, and Northern General Transport Co Ltd—"nationalized concerns with an unfair advantage" who had regular daily services in the areas concerned. Mr Hardwick said that his application was to allow the picking up of customers nearer their homes. There would have been no extra profit for the firm and no extra charge on the customer. Bee-Line's coach tours would not have taken regular traffic from United or Northern.
