• A range of all-welded fixed-side aluminium tipper bodies for rigid chassis has been developed by Neville Industries (Mansfield) Ltd, based on the company's Grosser tipping semi-trailer design.
High-grade N51 alloy is used for the side and floor panels as well as the 4in. by 3.5in. box-section stiffening ribs. This is a type of aluminium with improved resistance to abrasion and impact loads. Front and rear corner posts and floor ribs are 6in.-wide pressed sections.
At 3ft intervals along the new body, integral U-form ribs are welded to floor and sides and a feature of the design not found on the Grosser body is the use of intermediate floor ribs midway between the main U-form stiffeners.
A choice of heavy, medium and light duty construction is being offered for the new tipper bodies, which are available in lengths up to 25ft and capacities up to 40 cu yd.
Another interesting Neville Industries development is the adaptation of the 18 Cu yd Dumptrailer for liquid loads—in the first instance for carrying fish waste. The vehicle is loaded manually from a side loading bank and to simplify this the offside top edge of the body has been lowered by 10in, over a 13ft 6in. length. Full height is maintained front and rear to allow for surge of the near-liquid material. The tailboard is rubber sealed and fitted with pressure clamps. Unladen weight is 3 tons 4cwt.
