• A new ultra-light tipping semi-trailer has been developed by Seadyke Freight Systems Ltd, of Wisbech St Mary, and one has been supplied to Bedfordia Plant (Tallington) Ltd, Tallington, Beds, for use on the haulage of sand, gravel and aggregates.
The 27 Cu yd all-welded alloy body is on a lightweight Seadyke chassis with single leaf springs and tubeless twin tyres; the trailer is plated for 27 tons and it intended for 30-ton-gcw operation. With an unladen trailer weight of 4 tons 7cwt the payload is over 20 tons; list price is £3186 in this form.
Another Seadyke development is the use of one of the newly introduced Thompson tipping gears which is claimed to save considerable weight. The first installation is on a 29ft Seadyke alloy trailer body for C. S. Ellis Ltd of Ketton, Lincs. The complete trailer costs £3630.
