• New regulations relating to operators licensina, requirements for foreign vehicles visiting Britain will come into force on June 6.
Mr John PeYton, Minister for Transport Industries, laid the Goods Vehicles (Operators' Licences) (Temporary Use in Britain) Regulations before the Commons on Tuesday.
The regulations, made after consultation with the road transport associations and other interested bodies, consolidate, with minor amendments, existing regulations governing requirements for foreign vehicles. One important new requirement is that, where bilateral agreements provide for such documentation, British permits or own-account documents must be carried on foreign goods vehicles visiting this country.
This provision is intended to increase the effectiveness of the Road Traffic (Foreign Vehicles) Act which received the Royal Assent last week and becomes law on June 11.
