• Royal Mail Letters has taken delivery of a fleet of 116 Iveco Ford Turbo Daily fivetonne GVW 49.10 vehicles to handle the post in London, between main-line railway stations and the sorting offices.
According to Iveco Ford: "The Dailies — 100 with Brade Leigh box bodies, and 16 panel vans — are being used to fill an important gap for Royal Mail operations. Until now, the London Letters fleet of approximately 5,000 vehicles had no vans between 3.5 tonnes and 7.4 tonne. "The 7.4-tonne trucks lack the manoeuvrability for such runs, while the 3.5-tonners are no longer large enough to cope with the now vast volume of mail which arrives in the Capital in this way. The load capacity of the 49.10's is around 100 sacks of mail — the average pick up expected on these runs."
The Post Office will monitor the Daily performances on London's incessant stop-start runs, to decide whether or not to use the vehicles elsewhere in the country.
