L-XCLUDING list 8, published on
November 3, 36 per cent, of the vehicles offered for sale by the British Transport Commission have been sold. They have fetched about £12.9m., or an average of £1,290 each.
Up to and including list R.4, but excluding the special Scottish list, 9,607 vehicles out of a total of 26,514 offered, have been sold. Including the Scottish list, 27,748 vehicles have been put up to tender and 10,009 have been sold.
Of the 9,607 vehicles, 1,037 have been disposed of singly; 1,724 in two-vehicle units; 1,452 in three-vehicle units; 1,332 in lots of four; 1,812 in units of five to nine; 699 in units of 10-14; 460 in lots of 15-19; 672 in 20-29-vehicle units; 232 in lots of 30-39; 46 in one batch and 141 in two units (one of 89 and the other of 52).
The results of list R.4 are gratifying. Even including vehicles offered in units with premises, 65 per cent, of the vehicles contained in the list have been sold. Details are as follows: 100 MORE LEYLANDS FOR EDINBURGH
A NOTHER 100 Leyland double' A deckers have been ordered by Edinburgh Corporation. They will be 63-seaters, similar to the 100 being put into service now, and mark a further step in the tram-conversion programme.
The buses will weigh only 6 tons 14 cwt. 1 qr., affording an extremely low weight-per-seat ratio. Mr. W. M. Little, general manager of the transport undertaking, has specified 8-ft.-wide PD2.20 chassis, with vacuum brakes, incorporating a number of modifications, none of which is likely to reduce durability.
M.C.W. bodies weighing only 2 tons 7 cwt. 2 qr. 14 lb. will be fitted.
