• Modifications of the lighting regulations are to come into force, for numerous areas excepting the Metropolitan i' Police area and the City of London Police area where the lighting regulations are already very stringent, as from the 22nd inst. A concession is made in respect of theeconditional use of headlights. on motor vehicles, provided such vehicles have neither electric nor acetylene side lamps, nor oil side lamps with lens fronts. If a motor vehicle has side lamps without lens fronts, or only candles in the side lamps, headlights may be used, in certain areas, provided they are reduced and obscured so that, if the diameter or major axis of the front glass exceeds 6 ins., no light can pass except through a central portion which does not exceed 44 ins. in diameter, and which central portion must be dimmed with at least one thickness of ordinary wIlite tissue paper, or an equivalent medium. This concession about headlamps applies only to areas which are not included in the list below.
