• Hexham (Northumberland) and Weardale (County Durham) rural district councils have agreed to subsidize a bus service operated by Venture Transport Co. (Newcastle) Ltd. between Consett-Newlands-Blanchland-Townfield which had been threatened with closure.
It is understood that the service had been working at an annual loss of £1,640. After deducting a Ministry grant, the deficit was £820, which the two councils have agreed to meet on an equal basis. Buses operate three journeys a day over the route.
